Mad props to college students looking for part-time jobs while they study! We respect the hustle because our company was built from it. Fresh Prints was started by college students in the basement of their fraternity. Now, the collegiate community is at the heart of what we do!

Great to have you here, by the way! We appreciate your interest in being one of our Campus Managers. We know it’s not easy to put yourself out there let alone apply for a job with limited experience. But don’t worry, this article aims to address just that. Let’s go over everything you need to know to nail your Fresh Prints Campus Manager (CM) interview!

If you haven't applied yet, you can do that here.

What Does a Fresh Prints Campus Manager Do?

Campus Managers (CMs) run their own custom apparel businesses on campus. We provide CMs with the supply chain, technology, capital, and training, and they're in charge of marketing, project management, and client servicing.

CMs reach out to potential clients (mostly sororities, fraternities, and clubs) who need promotional material and help them throughout the whole Fresh Prints process. From recommending products, and creating or revising custom designs with our art team, to placing and tracking the orders and maintaining a client base and everything in between. They get a % of the sales they generate.

What Are The Requirements For The Job?

You might think that with the job description mentioned above, we’re looking for specific skills and experiences. That’s not the case at all. No prior experience is necessary. One of our recruiters, Jamilah Muhammad, said, “We understand that it can be difficult to get certain jobs as a college student so we’re happy to be that experience for them.”

College students have limited to zero experience in the job market, so we don’t expect applicants to come in with fancy experiences and skill sets nor do we expect our new CMs to do everything great immediately.  This is why in our application process, we only ask for standard personal and contact details and why the applicant wants to become a CM.

“I love to see people explain in detail why they are interested in the role. If you only put one sentence, it makes me feel like you’re not interested and don’t care too much about being here,” she expounded. No need to write an essay but sharing your best skills, what excites you, and why you think those make you a right fit for the position, will set you apart from other applicants.

What Do Recruiters Look For in Campus Managers?

Now, we’ve come to the good stuff. Get real interview pointers straight from our recruiters, Jamilah and Ryley. Do you have a notepad? Okay, great!

Jamilah, who was a Campus Manager herself before she graduated, said, “I look for people with great energy, tenacity, and eagerness to learn. Even if you’ve never worked a job a day in your life, if you can demonstrate that you are excited to grow as a person and as a pre-professional, then that’s a big plus for me!”

Ryley, who was a CM before too, listed being friendly, passionate, and authentic as important qualities she’s looking for in aspiring CMs. “Those are things that are hard to teach, the rest of the things they need to know are business-related - that stuff we can teach,” she reasoned.

When asked about her experience with applicants that have made her go hell yes, Jamilah shared, “I recently interviewed someone who came to the call very professional and excited to be there. They were well-dressed, had great questions and answers to my questions, and came prepared with prior knowledge about the company.”

Ryley revealed that she often meets with these great candidates. On what makes them stand out among others, she explained, “It's usually a combination of things. Our conversation flows easily, they obviously looked into the company and the role, they are clear about their interests as well as their concerns and they have already thought about how they could be successful as a CM.”

What Are Some Common Interview Mistakes Applicants Make?

Jamilah and Ryley gave us a list of the most common mistakes they’ve seen applicants make. Remember these major no-nos and tips to nail your CM interview:

Being Tardy
“If you’re 10 minutes late, we simply won’t be able to conduct the interview,” Jamilah shared. Her suggestion? Get yourself ready to go at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. That should give you ample time to prepare your camera and microphone before the call.

Having The Wrong Time Zone
Some applicants miss the correct time zone for the call. Make sure you get that right. Don’t lose your shot because of a tiny time mishap.

Doing Zero Research
If you’re asked why you're interested in Fresh Prints, our recruiters are expecting you to at least have an idea about the company and the role, and what makes you excited to be one of our CMs. You’d be surprised how many applicants answered “I don’t know.”

Having Bad Video Call Etiquette

Here are some ways to have good video call etiquette:

  • Turn your camera on so your recruiter can put a face to your name. It also helps you because it will be easier to remember you.
  • Check your internet connection before the interview.
  • Take the call in a quiet place with no distractions. Not while driving, walking around campus, or at a party.
  • Show up presentable. Definitely with a clean shirt on. (yeah, our recruiters have many stories)

When asked what interview advice she’ll give aspiring CMs, Jamilah said, “Be prepared and be yourself! I’m very excited to get to know you, and I want you to be excited about being here as well.”

Good luck with the interview, soon-to-be-the-freshest CM!
